‘YOU’VE GOT TO DRAW THE LINE SOMEWHERE” - MARCH 2020 - SOUND REACTIVE DRAWING MACHINE

On display at group show at Assembly House ‘REC.”

ARTIST STATEMENT:

In 2017, 15-year-old me, being interested in the merge between art, sound and technology, emailed artist, Dustin Yellin introducing myself and a proposal for a machine/sculpture. The idea was to create a sculpture that would visually translate live music/sound into abstract art pieces. Dustin Yellin politely encouraged me not to give out ideas but to engage with them myself. Nearly 5 years later I came across the early work of Angela Bullock and her drawing machines. From this, I set out to re-design her work and create a sound-reactive machine. In doing so I began the pursuit of the founding steps to my initial 2017 idea. To do so I had to develop tech and coding abilities to create sound reactive motors which I now intend to make open source. The final result of this initial prototype is titled ‘you’ve got to draw the line somewhere
